Enhanced Task Notifications
Note that notifications only work on paid Notion plans. If you're not on one, then this template won't benefit you.
Why I Built This Template
As much as I love Notion, I’ve found its default task notifications a smidge lacking from the get-go. My biggest issue: Notion sends notifications on tasks you completed early.
Let me explain.
Say that you create a task with a reminder. If you complete the task early, you then have to remember to uncheck the task reminder. Otherwise, Notion will still alert you.
I rarely remembered to complete this last step. The false positives drove me nuts. I'd get a notification and ask myself, "Wait, didn't I already complete that task four days ago? Am I going senile?" A few of my clients griped about it as well.
The Solution
Whining sucks. I decided to do something about it. This simple template enhances Notion’s default task notifications. Specifically, it:
- Eliminates superfluous notifications on completed tasks unless you remember to disable the reminder after completing it. I rarely did. (If I had a nickel for every false positive I received, I’d have more than a few bucks, but I digress.)
- By default, alerts the task owner if the task remains uncompleted seven days past its due date.
- By default, alerts the task owner if the task remains uncompleted a month past its due date.
Applying This Template to Your Existing Task or Project Database
Note that you don’t need to convert your existing task database(s) to this one. You can easily create these database views and automations in your current task database(s) of choice. It’s not hard.
A far superior method of alerting key people on your team about overdue tasks in Notion.
